  1. Hey All, I realise this forum is a ghost town these days but if anyone can upload the ROM I need to change from Stane's to Cyph3r's, it would be much appreciated! I believe it is the following file (it doesn't seem to be available anymore via the links above): ONDA_V975m_V3_v1.0.9_rozak_20140414-4G.rar.

Well, you did post it in the main thread about Stane's ROM! Might be an idea to start a new thread elsewhere if you think it's not related to this ROM....

Really glad to hear that it's helped. I might also give Greenify a go. Heard lots of positive reports about this. Also, since my earlier post, I seem to be getting even better battery life now. Whilst not in use, the tablet only runs down around 0.5% per hour (maybe even less) which is great! Perhaps it took a while for all of my new battery-saving measures to sync with one another and reach their full potential. I also only seem to suffer SOD every 2-3 days, which again is a huge improvement. All in all, I'm really happy with how the tablet is performing now. My Dad has an iPad air and considering the difference in cost, this tablet is definitely worth the $$$ (and the occasional headache)! If anything, I've learnt a lot more about how to customise ROMs which I wouldn't have known had I not bought this. Every cloud....

Stane should be releasing a new (hopefully more stable) version of his ROM any minute now. Perhaps that will help?

I'm still pretty sure the card has something to do with it. I suffered only one SOD in 24 hours without the card compared to about an average of 10 with the card. I also notice that some people have reported in this thread that they haven't experienced any SOD whatsoever. So, I'm guessing that could mean it's some sort of hardware problem. You get what you pay for though, I suppose! Despite these various issues, I think I've finally reached a happy compromise. I thought it would be useful to explain my current configuration so that others experiencing similar SOD and/or battery problems can try the same. FYI, despite my suspicion that the SD card is causing problems, I still have one mounted with about 20gb of music on it. So, here's what's installed (and what they do): Xposed framework (stable version 2.6.1) with mediascanner fix module (this prevents mediascanner from constantly, and unnecessarily running, which drastically improves battery life) Better Wifi On/Off (makes sure wifi is properly off when screen is off - again, helps improve battery life and may also help prevent SOD) Safe Charge (seems to prevent SOD when battery is charging - I leave the manual control option unchecked) Deep Sleep Battery Saver (helps ensure tablet goes into a deep sleep when not in use - I use the "aggressive" setting) With all of these apps/programmes, I only seem to suffer the occasional SOD (perhaps one or two a day at most - which is a serious improvement for me). The battery also seems to last MUCH longer. I'd say it runs down at a rate of 1.5% per hour when not in use which seems to be okay (again, a huge improvement on the 10% an hour that I was experiencing!) I've also noticed that Chrome (particularly the "sandbox" process) eats through my battery. I like Chrome because it syncs with my laptop/phone etc. but I'm going to try Dolphin for a while to see if that improves the battery life. Anyway, I hope the above resources help. Also, great news to hear from Stane again! Perhaps all of these issues will be resolved in the next release anyway!!!

So, it seems like it's one step forward, two steps backward. I installed xposed framework and the mediascanner fix module - per the previous suggestions. This seems to work in that it has dramatically improved the battery life/usage by limiting how many times and how long mediascanner runs. However, I'm still getting random SODs (sleep of deaths) as you can see from the attached/embedded screenshot. I've tried two different sd cards, different formatting, different content, but no luck. The SOD keeps happening. I suppose I'm better off than where I was a week ago considering my battery is no longer running down as quickly, but the SOD problem persists. Looks like I either suck it up and accept that I will have to reboot every so often, or I do without a card... image ru

Thanks, seems a lot more straightforward than I imagined. Will give it a go and report back soon.

Thanks for the suggestion. Will try some other cards and will also try reformatting via the tablet. No worries - I'll post an update as soon as I get a chance.

Branded 32gb class 10, FAT32. Haven't tried another card yet but I'll give it a go today. I formatted the card using disk utility on Mac OSX. It sounds like you're suggesting it could be an issue with the card rather than mediascanner? I had thought this could be the case, but given how many people had complained about mediascanner I figured that must have been the culprit.

Hi All, It's been a day or two since I discovered the problem with my tablet (see my posts on the previous couple of pages) so it's probably about time for a quick update. I can confirm that it's definitely an issue with mediascanner. The tablet was working like a dream without the SD card. I've since reformatted it (the card), added music back to it, cleared the cache of the media storage app on the tablet, and reinserted the card. Problems are back! Sleep of death happens (although less frequently), battery readings are erratic (the tablet will sometimes switch back on with around 10% less battery). I'm not very familiar with xposed (as per the earlier recommendation) and probably won't get around to trying it due to a general lack of time/brain power. I've tried the .nomedia file trick which seems to work to some extent, but then none of my music shows up in any of the apps! So, in the short term, I think my solution is to just do without the additional memory card. Of course, if anyone has any other quick solutions, please feel free to shoot them my way. I suspect that this is probably not a specific issue with Stane's ROM so I apologise if these posts are a little off topic. However, I thought it wouldn't hurt for Stane to see this issue in case it's something he's able to factor in to the next release.

Hey folks, just a quick update on my erratic battery situation - hopefully this might help anyone else having the same problems. Just to recap - I installed Stane's ROM just over a week ago. It was a HUGE improvement over the stock ROM (particularly in terms of speed) but the battery life seemed to get worse (it had been pretty appalling to begin with). At a guess, I'd say the battery was losing more than 10% an hour (with wifi and screen off!) and as much as 20-30% an hour during normal use. The battery stats also showed that the tablet was constantly awake - clearly something was always running in the background. At the same time, I was also suffering from SOD (sleep of death) where the tablet would just randomly switch off - there was no pattern to this behaviour whatsoever. I followed a number of suggestions in this thread (thanks guys) and some of these helped a little (particularly Wake Lock which prevents SOD - however, it kills the battery even more!) In the end, I installed Better Battery Stats (well worth the £1.74 IMHO) and managed to identify the process that was keeping the tablet awake and killing the battery. It was mediascannerservice, which, as I understand it, is the service that scans media on your device and SD card and should only run periodically. After reading some other forums, I discovered that one of the key reasons this happens is because of corrupt files (image files I think) on the SD card. Basically, the service keeps on trying to scan and read these files which is what destroys the battery life. So yesterday I took the SD card out and hey presto! Battery only lost about 2% over 8 hours (compared with about 80% usually). I remember that the SD card mounting and unmounting was an issue in the stock ROM (and possibly in Rozak's) so this could be the cause of poor battery life for other people here. I'm currently in the process of reformatting the SD card, and starting from scratch. I've also wiped the cache associated with this process. I'll update in due course but thought this might be of some use to others here.

I think he's on a bit of a (deserved) hiatus. He mentioned a couple of months back that he was relocating to the UK so I imagine he's busy with other things at the moment. If he does eventually release a new version, that would be great. If not, this ROM is still a million times better than the stock one so I'm still happy!

Thanks for the suggestion. Out of interest, which app did you use? I had thought of trying this but have read mixed things about whether or not it really works. I suppose I don't have much to lose though!

Lionel - I had this problem when I was on the stock ROM and think it's been discussed in the threads on Rozak's ROM. Might be worth looking there for a solution?

Thanks for your suggestions guys! If it's not ROM, I'm guessing that leaves apps or hardware? Ismail, I'll try your suggestion and will let you all know how I get on. Thanks again.
