V989 Core8_V2.1.3_v1/v2/v3/v4 firmware

Recommended Posts

Hi, thanks for the info.

Questions (sorry, I am newbie):

1.- Is it an official ROM from ONDA, right?

2.- If so, is it available by the OTA app in the tablet?

3.- Where can I find the "Brush tutorial"? I have been looking in the forum but no success...

Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome to the forums …

1. yes ... exactly as this topic name suggests “ Official Onda ROM for v989 “

2. Have you tried Over The Air update for this firmware version ?  Not all firmware is OTA available.

I suspect this is not …. Note: description #3 the new Onda ROM 2.0 ( Onda Launcher, etc. )

Onda generally pushes out OTA updates day(s) before releasing the brush package

3. Brush tutorials are included as part of the download package. Chinese characters name .doc / .docx file

Or look through the other v989 sub-forums for Google translated English instruction file(s)

Thanks RobV.

I am working now. When I am back home, I'll try to do OTA to check it.

If not, I will do it following the instructions. I suppose that I need to backup with Titanium all my apps and settings to restore after the udpate. Right?

Thanks again,

@ marfa

Hopeful other device owners will provide suggestions and or recommended methods for this firmware.

Onda ROM 2.0 better emulates iOS v4 Pad - or so Onda paid bloggers have posted for months.

This may crash App and / or device if you copy over older settings.

Anybody there who can post screenshots?

There are lots of screenshots posted for this on on www.ondabbs.cn under V989 section and 2.0 ROM. Use chrome to go there and translate the page, about 20 screenshots. The new ROM has lots of new stuff in it! Like new Themes, and effects.

With this ROM, I get much higher Antutu Benchmark scores. I get 64,500 with it but only a score of 52,000 using the Android 5 Test ROM. Seems strange, but this ROM did appear speedier over all with it seeming smoother. I did go back to Android 5 Test firmware as I prefer the look and feel of it, but was wondering why such a large difference between firmware.

Both Antutu benchmark and CPU Z report a speed oh 1.8 on 2.1.3 ROM. Strange.

Having tested this ROM today it is the best to date, using speed mode especially.

Highly recommended, no problems.

Surely now the Onda V989 is a force to be reckoned with.

Thank you ONDA.

Did you use unofficial Lollipop Firmware before? What is your opinion comparing to this Firmware?

Greetings Stoni,

Yes, I did try the unofficial Lollipop Firmware, but found that it caused some simple games to stutter, and did not feel no way as fluent or fast as this ROM.

It almost looks as if someone (or more) new has taken over the software development, or whoever was working on it before has become a lot more skilled, and given the firmware and machine the interface that it is due. I have used mostly all the other custom ROMs for v4 and am very happy with this now.

Try it and see. The machine now performs like a world class product.

All the best.

What is the purpose to publish ROM 2.1.3 when Android Lollipop is almost here?

one is available  ...  the other is not ??

Edit:

Some do not want Android 5.0 at this phase of its' development for this device

@tergon:

Easy explanation: First they had to adapt the UI modifications for the new OndaRom2, and its easier to integrate them in the KitKat ROM (because they have more experience with that ROM), and when its stable on KitKat it's easier to port it to Lollipop (the TestROM is nearly pure Android).

And ledevan explained here that the UI is developed by a third party company, who's selling their UI to everyone who's paying for it. (That's the teason why the new Teclast UI looks so similar to the Onda UI).

And when there is a new KitKat ROM, why not publish it, it's a reason to stay in the news, and shortens the waiting period.

I think autorotation does not work. There is no point in the settings...

And when you use the Camera, homescreen is in landscape mode, only reboot helps...

EDIT: it works after reboot

Hi all, thanks for trying to help.

My onda v989 is already set to English but system notices - like the one I'm getting when I'm logging into my Wi-Fi network - are still in Chinese.
Anyone knows how to change those into English?

Please understand that I am referring to the actual system language and not to the user main language that I know how to change(Setting >> [A] Language&input >> Language (1st line) )

I hope to learn Chinese in the next semester but I'd still rather have that text in English.

I'm on RemixOs since few Weeks, and i've no more crazy bugs like : Freeze during installation via Playstore, Laggs, Stockage issue ...
When you boot, on the stock ROM i wasn"t having information like "Optimisation des Applications 1/102 ..." So you know when it is just Loading ...
      You have a cool TaskBar

          5. Titanium Backup
Uninstall all chinese software with it.
My opinion: Best way to remove chinese software !
          6. Nova launcher
      My opinion: Light and fluid

[Bugs i've encountered on STOCK ROM]
      - During installing apps via Playstore (not downloading) it freeze all the tablet, and unfreeze when apps installed.
      - Some big games on playstore, donwload (Game + Additional data), install, and fail without reason or just blackscreen for some second and return to launcher.
      - With "Universal Init.D", Tweaks ABS, when i boot up the tablet, it's a little laggy and cannot have SU working for 1-2 mn, and see on bottom:
"Init. Universal have got root permission accorded"
"Lucky Patcher have got root permission accorded"
After that, everything it's ok and smooth.
(Maybe due to Universal Init.d that launch script ?)

[What can be working on ?]
      - Cannot get working Link2SD
I've try with / without second partition / EXT4, doesn't seen the partition.
      - Not enought space on "System partition" maybe add/extend 512Mb more ?
      - Have a debloated rom with init.d support
      - Found / Have a custom Recovery ? FlashFire
      - Try to get working OndaZ Air Rom:
I've tried it, but got some problems like: OP showed in front of applications size / Shutdown of the tabled under 59% / Games are "Slow" / Sometime lines bug with color are show
(Take look at my post 30/10/2016)

      Hey Guys,
we bought a V989 Air 16GB golden Tablet on gearbest.com and the touchscreen is not working at all. The tablet boots and you see android icons (chinese) but you can't click, swipe or anything (zero reaction at all). the buttons on the right side are working. we made a factory reset, no change. then i tried flashing the device with a chinese onda software and that process seemed to work, but still no touch screen reaction.
do you have any suggestions what i could try?
ould this be a problem which is not resolvable by software?
or maybe not resolvable at all?

we tried to get our money back but gearbest.com knows how to avoid this.
In the serial number i have something like xxxxxxxV5A000379

      thank you!

      I purchased Onda V989 Air Core8 (32GB) , having serial Number : V989ABFAV3D00065 in December, 2015.
Since last 2 months I am having problem of automatic Shut downs.
Battery is full, and I be just using simple apps, like Facebook or Browser, and this tablet just gives a message of Shutting Down, and then shuts down. First it used to happen once or twice a day. But now it happens even after 10 or 15 minutes, so it has become almost impossible to use the tab.
I have not changed / upgraded any ROM or any software into it, since I bought it.  It still has its original Android version 4.4.4, and Firmware version # V1.0.1_v3
I have tried Factory Reset multiple times, but the issue still remains there.
Any idea or suggestion for me ?
      Thanks in advance.

      Hello.
I'm thinking of buying a new charger for my Onda v989 since I don't trust the stock one and wan't to be able to charge over night. Is there something I should think about when choosing? I vaguely remember reading that you should use a 2.1a charger for prolonged usbconnector life, is that true or have I just been dreaming?
      regards xdr
